Recently, our team had the opportunity to visit students at the Eddie Lee Wilkins Summer Camp in Cartersville, Georgia, for a special financial literacy lesson focused on saving, money management, and building strong financial habits at an early age.
During our visit, Kirby and Morgen spoke with students about the importance of setting savings goals and making thoughtful decisions with their money. To help them put those lessons into practice, we provided 50 students with vouchers worth $50 each to open a savings account with Coosa Valley Credit Union.
For many of the students, this was their first experience opening an account and watching their savings begin to grow. One parent shared how the experience inspired their children to continue saving after they returned home:
"I just want to express my gratitude. This was a great experience for us. They gave us so much love and made the moment memorable. Not only did we sign up, but it also sparked the joy of saving. They came home, filled up their piggy banks, sold bracelets, and doubled their money. We are heading back to make our second deposit and are enjoying watching their money grow. Thank you all for what you do."
Stories like this demonstrate why financial education is so important. A single lesson can encourage children to become excited about saving, earning money, and working toward their goals.
